My junk silver is out of control so I figure I may carry around $100.00 face value to my dealer buddy and take advantage of these high spot levels. I also have around fifty 40% halves that I am going to try to twist his arm into taking as well. I know Coinflation says they are worth just shy of $4.00 each, but I also know these are something of a pain. What would be a fair asking price for the 40% halves? I was thinking maybe $2.00 each?

I would think a little more than that. Maybe $3 to $3.25 each?

Here is something I've seen posted before that has buy/sell prices among dealers

    https://trading.upstatecoins.com/wp-content/uploads/dealer.pdf

By my calculation, On Friday Sept 4th the dealer was paying other dealers $3.75 per 40% Half (when selling at least $50 face value worth).

    (26.54-1.10)*.295 = $7.50 per $1 face value = $3.75 per half dollar

What's he going to give you for the 90% silver?

    Full melt is $2000?
    $100 face x 18 = $1800
    plus 50 x $4 = $200

Ask for a total of $1750.

That is one very useful sheet. It makes sense on a lot of levels. Thank you very much for that.

He said he was paying just shy of $18.00.... But then he is a good friend of mine and I’m sure we will have to do some horse trading along the way.

Edit.... I said that wrong..... He was paying just shy of $18.00 times face.

Then ask for the full $1800 - $1850 for all.

Based on that dealer sheet, the guy there would be paying about $2,070 for $100 in 90% and $25 in 40%. So, I would aim for more than $1,750. Closer to $1,900-$1,950 (around $1,800 for the 90% and $150 for the 40%).

I don’t necessarily need the money. I need to reduce the clutter. I may see if I can take a swing at a gold eagle. Even if I have to use a little more of my silver..... I appreciate this. I sure thought the 40% halves were troublesome to unload.

I recently sold two rolls of 40% Kennedy halves on a local gun forum. I'm thinking that you have one up your way as well.

Lots of guys are into silver and would probably be interested. I sold each roll for $75 and threw in a Mercury dime of the buyers choosing (from those I presented to him).

That's 7.5 times face or about $3.75 each. Might find closer to retail interest there. I offloaded all of my 40% silver before starting on the 90%. It took about two or three weeks to find a buyer and schedule a transaction, but he was motivated and came to my workplace.

    Hope this helps.

Got a roll yesterday for the same 75roll price. I like 10% war nickels and low rent Kennedys so have to buy some sometime as the collection grows.

Randy, if you want to sell them have you considered taking them to your LCS and trade them for one nice coin? Maybe a really nice Bust Half Dollar. I'm sure he has a coin you like or want and feel the price is prohibitive. Trading is a great way to lower that and get something you really want. Best wishes.

Oh, they are, especially when silver is down in the dumps. When it's going up, or gone up, they're easier to move -- still not as easy as 90%, but it's at least possible.

That's why I didn't suggest it but you could trade the smallest safe in for a larger one. Hehehe
