And it all started innocently :smile, I just wanted some zip freezer bags for the 2 TriTip roasts I did on the BBQ and the extra Christmas Tamales. If I don't freeze them quickly, they disappear:mad:

The experiment is underway, I will check tomorrow. Some pocket change holding it under.....Yes I checked before putting it in, no errors or rare dates.

Well, I did a thread on this on August 30th of this year.

    http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t40942/

I am happy to report that all the bags I vacuumed shut are still like bricks - especially the one where I put a Dansco SBA album and a Dansco Sacagawea album in it.

It helps a lot if the valve is located over a flat area - the seal is much better.

So after four months, it appears that virtually no air has entered...

However, I'm not going to soak my Sacs in a pail of water just for GD!

Anyone want to make a friendly little wager that all, or at least most, pass and come out bone dry?

There was an experiment done in coincommunity where a person tried to ziplock her proof coins for a test. Turned out to be diasterous and I wouldn't recommend it.

    SCIENCE NEWS!

Well it has been 24 hrs, and the paper toweling and coins appear completely dry. I lifted then whole bag out and the vacuum and seal seems to be holding. I Didn't open it up as it has another 24 hrs to go and I was afraid I might let some water inside. So back under the water again until tomorrow.:)

I am surprised ! They have improved ziplocks in the past 40 years.

    But honestly, that's why I asked ;)

I wasn't very sure either, but the zippers do look somewhat different than the regular bags. Perhaps they had to redesign it to hold a vacuum. The vacuum hole/seal is what interests me. That is where I thought some leakage might occur, and still might. I am glad you brought up the question.

I have a commericial vacuum heat sealer left over from the jerky biz, but it gathers dust in the garage. I do use the Saf-t-Flip and " bar type " heat sealer tho for my better raw stuff that I do not put into airtites.

A little of both I guess, airtites/ heat sealer, I'm not worried about the humidity in AZ:rolleyes:

You should be. It gets a lot more humid there than it does in Uath or Nevada. I hear it gets all the way up to 40% down there sometimes ;)
