any idea why this one went for $4k Any idea what variety it was? Thanks https://www.ebay.com/itm/1822-Phila...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
moderate date no shill obverse.star 8 points between dentils.Foot of T well below foot of R. Reverse has square serif letters tiny or missing center dot.legend near wreath.
Here are the images from the eBay listing for posterity’s sake. A worse example was sold by Heritage for $5581.25 in 2014. Per the Heritage listing, the die marriage was rated as R7 at the time and is one of three “stoppers” for the middle date large cents. The eBay coin does appear to be an N-14, so it was probably a good buy. I wonder if the final sale price has the seller scratching his head? https://coins.ha.com/itm/large-cent...ls-vg-n-14-r7-our-eac-grade-ag3/a/1200-2088.s
Sometimes I see this stuff and ask myself, "How could something so ugly be worth so much?" I know the answer, but it still shocks me sometimes.
ok thanks!! any idea which one this is? I see the leaf left of F and no dot, but I think the letters are to large and the wreath not close enough to the legend on the back... thanks everyone, its been a while since I have had time to get on here and hunt large cents... sorry its on a scanner - dont waste to much time, I dont think its anything rare... that said, I'm glad to be back on the board...
Looks like at least 7 of the 10 bidders knew what it was. I believe there are something like eight or nine of these known now.
all it took was 2 of them to know....lol thanks for the help, was just looking and saw it and was curious...
