very nice coin for sure. I am no expert on "full steps" but I think that would be key on the grade/not grade question...It does look good for full steps to me
Unless the coin grades MS 67, than all the value will get sucked up in grading fees. If you have to have it graded, I would send it to NGC. You may be able to eke out a star or plus grade from them.
1 +1 the specimen has eye appeal without a doupt...but again Jeffersons do not hold value...even in higher grades obtaining market values is extremely difficult. It is very easy to obtain a perfect Jefferson specimen a 70 where the value of said specimen is less than grading fees. I agree with the NGC over PCGS grading it...over the years ive gotten higher grades from pcgs, I feel the grades from NGC on Jeffersons to be spot on and truer to actual coin. From the images provided No to full steps! This again is a hammered coin nice strike . And a pretty coin. * 66 After futher studying the mark on the upper cheek, as well the lamination issues on lower and collar ill go 65 * the chin hit also...an attached lamination on dome . Lamination issues are very common in war year nickels.
That coin is an MS66+ or MS67 and would easily garner a * from NGC. Greysheet for MS66 is $30 and $70 for MS67. Grading fees are gonna run you about $25 on economy level at NGC, so there is no way to lose by submitting the coin. What distresses me most about some of the replies in this thread is that we have been having an ongoing discussion about toning premiums on this forum for over 5 years, but people still forget about them. This coin is going to drive a significant toning premium and I wouldn't sell it for less than $100 no matter what grade it receives (even MS65*). If it gets MS67*, it becomes a registry quality coin and should drive a very strong premium and I would be an interested party as I am still seeking to replace the MS68* that I sold last year.
$25 Plus the $10 handling fee, and the shipping both ways. If you do send it, don't send it by itself, submit some other coins in order to pro-rate the shipping fees among all the coins. Otherwise your going to have $60 to $70 into it for grading and fees.
The toning is what makes this coin potentially Much more valuable as I don’t believe you will get a high enough MS to warrant it on grade alone. If you are trying to sell this coin and are patient, you will likely be able to get a very nice premium. Grading it will cause you you lose most of the profit, so I personally would try to sell without grading it. If your not selling it, I definitely would not grade it or I would wait till I was grading a bunch of coins to get a discount. Also, if you have an LCS you work with a lot they can get it graded for you for cheap. Very pretty coin and good luck to you!
