1983 P Washington Quarter ?

    Forgot where/what I read about this quarter. My question is with a mintage 673M why is it listed at $30 in ms63 in the Redbook? Sales on eBay range from $6-20+ and even more for tpg pieces. Whazzupp?

    There were no official mint sets produced by the U.S. Mint in 1983. All the coins for business strike sets, collections, etc., had to be plucked from circulation. High grades are tougher to come by. Proofs sets for 1983 on the other hand are fairly inexpensive.

    Lawtoad, thank you so much for shedding light on my question. Now I need to go through my mint sets, I may we'll have the souvenir sets mentioned in that thread.

    That is a privately assembled set. There are a lot of privately and commercially assembled sets available that were created as there were no official mint sets produced.

    And most are pretty expensive. At least more than that one. That is all I meant.:)
