Yesterday I received in the post an unexpected gift from a fellow collector and friend. @Orfew noticed I was missing this extremely rare Domitian denarius from my collection and duly sent an example to fill the gap. I'm at a loss for words. Domitian AR Denarius, 3.27g Rome mint, 88-89 AD Obv: IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM P M TR P VIII; Head of Domitian, laureate, bearded, r. Rev: IMP XVI COS XIIII CENS P P P ; Minerva stg. l., with spear (M4) RIC 655 (R2). BMC -. RSC -. BNC -. Ex Andrew Short Collection, acquired from Chris Rudd 2019. An extremely rare IMP XVI Domitian denarius struck fleetingly in the autumn of 88, perhaps for just a few days or weeks judging by the rarity. The rapid accumulation of imperial acclamations during this time period hints at accelerated military activity. Missing from the BM and Paris collections. This coin is a detectorist find from Methwold, Norfolk, UK. Thank you Andrew for your kind generosity. People such as yourself make the ancient coin experience much more than just a hobby.
Honestly there’s not a better community, anywhere, than CT Ancients. @tenbobbit sold me 80 VERY GOOD coins for an incredible price and really elevated my collection into another dimension for one low price. I am forever in his debt! people here are amazing. I’ve received two incredible Secret Saturnalia gifts as well. I love you all
That is a great gift indeed! Such a nice thing to do @Orfew! David, note that your discription mentions XVII and not XVI.
WOW @Orfew. Sir that is a very kind and generous thing to do. Brightens up my day in spite of all the depressing news on TV. Kudos to you sir for your thoughtfulness.
Alegandron, thanks for the Sanskrit! Had to Google it. Just, Just blown away. ...Something tells me I'm in the right place....
