GTG: 1888-O Morgan

    Seeing a lot of MS64s and my first impression is always too conservative, so I'll go with MS65. Worst I can be is wrong, right?

    Except for the scratch, I think MS62+

    That would have been the grade I would have expected on a newer PCGS holder, not an OGH.

    The prime focal areas on the obverse aren't well-lit. Both 64 and 65 are plausible from the picture. OGH does not mean conservatively graded. Most of those were cracked out for higher grades. If an OGH is banged up, you can be assured that it's spent a lot of time being shopped around for a buyer, and put on many miles of being slid across display cases.

    Pictures seem to either conceal or reveal too much, I'll bet it looks good for the grade in hand.

    It's just the coin had a much harder life than the graders gave it. What is slightly un evident is the amount of luster. I was on the fence on an over graded coin and a 64

    IMO the contacts in focal areas kept it from Gem.
