My son leaned into the picture I was taking for an auction listing. It is an old whitman coin board for Mercury dimes. He is from 2003 and the coin board is from 1937 or 1938.
Andy, you're not tryin' to auction the kid too are you? LOL- sorry, couldn't resist. Wonderful looking boy. Bet he's a collector like his dad....
Thanks everyone. Actually he is good more than he is bad. Now put him with his brother and it is a different story. The notebook is full of state quarters taped to the pages. He spent an hour in his room making a collection. He ran out of room so the bird quarters didn't make the cut. While I would be happy if either kid collected something (doesn't have to be coins) I am happy for the time we spend together at the kitchen table sorting pennies or looking through what arrives in the mail. My wife just rolls her eyes and keeps on going.
Pretty cool, time with our kids is a valyable commodity these days !! Neat coin board as well !! Did you ever get that Lange book you were after?
Yes I did get the book. In fact I've been shopping Mr. Lange's auctions. Sometime I'll post pictures of the boards I am keeping in my own collection.
I'm finding I can pick up nice boards without coins for good prices and they aren't selling quite as well as they did three months ago.
I have a collection of these also and values/prices on these can vary depending on the year and company that produced them. On average I have paid around $20 dollars each but they can be much more for rarer boards. This book has alot of valuable info for anyone who is interested in collecting these. David Lange is the foremost expert on these and has an extensive collection of boards and albums. The book is certainly worth buying even if you're not interested in collecting the boards, its a look into the history of our hobby and how coins were collected and stored before there were air-tites and albums. http://www.coincollectingboards.com/Coin_Board_Book_BW.html
Absolutly If you ever get a chance to get to a large national show, be sure to visit the NGC booth. David Lange is a very personable guy, always willing to share his knowledge , and trust me, that is vast. He will take the time with you as long as the line at the table is not stacking up behind you, and I have nothing but great things to say about the guy.
Dipping kids-- you guys are too much! We have been coming across some of these boards at the coin club. On the back of selected examples are instructions for cleaning your coins!!!!
