So my mom’s bank is now filling up in coins (bout 50k) I was ready to sort them all (copyrighted from Pokémon theme phrase: “catch them all”) but the first box I received was an odd ball (title is a pun) and I noticed that the it was 50 rolls of UNC. 2012-D in a quarter box. Don’t believe me, see for yourself. I don’t know how this happened. Probably they ran out of penny boxes but why UNC. from 2012 that confuses me. Tell me why.
box is stamped July 10 2020. As long as they didn't charge you $500 for 50 rolls of cents it's all good I think. likely the box the cents came in got damaged and they used the quarter box as a replacement. And maybe with the economy, some dude turned in all the 2012 cents he was hoarding for the last 8 years, maybe his box was destroyed... who knows.
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I doubt the US Mint stores their coins in rolls. It's my understanding, except for items they sell by the roll or sets, they keep the coins in canvas bags.
Someone obviously bought them and after 8 years there was no increase in value so what do you do with them? The faster way is to take them to your bank and help with the fake coin shortage. Now you have them.
Well isn’t there a coin shortage because owners in stores try to ask people for loose, metallic change where I am.
