Newbie here... how do you classify this.....error penny

Error Lincoln penny. It weighs 3.1, and is not a wheat penny. Wish I could figure out the date. How do I classify it? Off center by how much??

NICE! Looks to be a pre-1982 cent to me. No zinc evident anywhere.

I would guesstimate it at 75% off center or a 25% strike, maybe a little bit more.

It is between 1959 and 1982.

Even of it is Off-Center it will still weigh the same as a normally struck Copper Cent.

About 70% to 80% Off-Center Strike.

Yes, slightly. I would estimate a few percent. Maybe 2%?

I have a similar, but it's around 5%. I don't think they get "interesting" until they approach 10% or better. The opposite rim from the off center needs to be gone to catch most folks attention.

It's either a Misaligned Die Strike or slight Broadstruck. Not an Off-Center strike.

Reverse looks centered so most likely a misaligned die strike.

 

There is a difference between an Off-Center strike and a Misaligned Die Strike.

Both coins actually were given to me by a friend he always is finding neat things at auctions or yard sales.

I'm not sure how all this works I'm new and I cannot find a way to make a new post in the money error category. I have a 1982 small date D penny that weighs 3.11 and I'm not sure exactly what it's called something denomination. Anyways its black..ish. can anyone help me please?

Only 2 have ever been found and attributed.
You most likely have a Large date.
You need to start your own thread with pictures.
It's easy. Go to Forums.. Pick Error Coins and hit Post new thread then proceed.

Maybe ask someone who is good with computers to help you.. Teenagers know a lot about posting messages and images.

 

Thanks I appreciate that. It's a small date though.. All numbers are aligned on the top and on the bottom the 9 is longer

If it is then you will have the 3rd example ever discovered. I doubt it.

The number 2 is what determines large or small date not the 9..

Welcome to CT @Manda S. Please read the rules carefully and then select the forum you want to post in from the drop down menu on "Forums" at the top. Click on "New Post" button on the mid right side. And then follow these instructions.
You should always post in focus FULL IMAGE photos (after you upload your photo, two buttons appear: Thumbnail and Full Image, click Full Image and your photo appears full size on your post and is easily enlarged by clicking on it. Always show both the obverse and reverse, even if your question is just about one side. Members can often give more valuable information having both sides to evaluate. Crop out superfluous background so just the coin shows, and post photos with correct orientation so members don't have to turn their computer in some awkward fashion to view it properly. Add close ups of areas you have questions about and make your questions as definitive as possible so we know what you are asking for. And try to have the best lighting possible to show the most favorable photo of the coin. Hope this helps in the future. Good luck.
