I found this last night.. Dad had it stuck with tape to a 1970s calendar.. I hope I have this one right.. No mint mark on the obverse.. You can see where the coin used to be gold electroplated.. Weighs only 2.27 grams.. High Relief torch on the reverse.. The A and M in America are touching.. The C and A in America are touching as well.. IN and We are fat on obverse.. So is the TRU in Trust.. What do y'all think??
WOW.. The torch matches.. I tr tripled checked before I posted it because I'm always getting stuff wrong.. What did I miss if you don't mind me asking.. I'm not trying to waste anyone's time.. Thanks for your response..
This is taken from the NGC site The difference is obvious to the naked eye. It is believed (although unconfirmed) that in 1969 and 1970 the mints had a deficit of working reverse dies for Roosevelt dimes and simply made the decision to use surplus reverse dies, which just happened to be the 1968 proof reverse, to continue production. Also, The correct reverse (RDV-001) features the torch flame in low relief, while the 1968-S reverse (RDV-002 & FS-901) has two deeper valleys in the flame. The difference is obvious to the naked eye.
Yes it’s RDV-002. I find these quite often so I question any claims of rarity. http://varietyvista.com/07 Roosevelt Dimes/DDR Detail Files/1970PRDV002.htm
Thank you.. I was close.. I have never saw a Lincoln Cent with gold on it before.. So was I right about the reverse??
Yes, it would be the proof reverse of ‘68. That’s RDV-002. The gold color on the obverse is probably dried adhesive. Try soaking the coin in 100% acetone and see if it comes off. Here is a good site to bookmark if you haven’t already. http://varietyvista.com/index.htm
When I first heard about the FS-901, I started collecting 1969 through 1980 dimes. I currently have 260 RDV-002 1970's. (even more RDV-001's) (at times, working on a toll road had its advantages)
....and I apologize for being wrong in my post. Given the condition of coin, I just didn't see it. .....and, I'm not a Die Variety guy, so I should have just kept my mouth shut.... Sorry....
Awe.. Thanks.. Apology accepted.. We all Make mistakes.. I do on here all the time.. Lol.. Very thoughtful of you Fred.. Not a problem.. TY
