While looking at this 1994 Lincoln, I noticed that the Lincoln in the Memorial just didn't seem right. When I zoomed in on it I noticed that it apperard to be two Lincolns sitting in the memorial, or am I just seeing things? Look what happens when your wife buys you a USB Microscope to look at coins and have to much time on your hands . Any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all who have offered their advice on my many other questions in the past. I really do apprieciate it.

I'm wondering if it could be a die clash. Probably not, it would be from his beard close to his neck.

Would a die clash give you almost a complete second lincoln sitting in the memorial? I thought a die clash would show something from the Obverse on the Reverse or something from the Reverse on the Obverse. Again I am just learning all this stuff so I could be confused on this.

All I can make out from your pic. is a lump that looks like it could be a head with dark spots around it. If you had a clearer close up shot, I would be thankful.

die clash happens when the two dies come together without a planchet between them and resulting in transfer of the designs on the dies to one another. looking at your pictures there may be a extra knee also which would make this a doubled die.

That would be impossible for that to be a die clash so that's not a die clash for sure. I did zoom in on the image, and I do see two lincolns . The only thing this may be is a doubled die doubled llincoln, like the doubled ear 84 cent. There is not a listed variety for this but , that doesn't matter because new varieties are discovered every day. I would suggest and do some research on this coin it could be a very interesting new find maybe. Good luck on your search.

as jazz said there are new varieties found all the time and you most likely have a new one. I checked coppercoins.com and it is not listed.
if it turns out to be new, it would be a good one, most of the new ones just have the knees or other single element doubled. you might want to post the pics there and find out. good luck and keep searching.

    Thanks Bill.
I went to coppercoins.com and tried to register on the forum, but keep getting a message that the moderator does not allow new members. Guess I will have to wait until after Feb 1st when he is set up in his new location before I can register.

    Thanks

What I;m going to do Digenes I will post the image on another web site and see what they say about your coin. I will get back to you if I find anything about it. I want to know myself if this is a new variety because if it is I think this one will bring a nice premium like the 84 doubled ear. I;m curious myself[IMG]

I really do appreciate that. I printed out the infor from Ken Potters site this AM, so will do what I have to if I find out that it would be worth it.

It appears that there are two spots surrounding an area about the size of Lincoln's head and which your mind interprets as a head. It is highly unlikely that a doubling would have occurred for that one tiny detail only. There is a 1994 DDR variety but the doubling is seen on the three right-hand columns of the Memorial only. You'll need a 30x or better magnification to see whether there's an actual change in the surface of the field there.

I found this 2003-D. I think it looks similar.

I don't know if it will become anything, but it was fun to find it.

While further examining you coins ,I hate to say this but both of your coins are not doubled dies ,the first one is black oxidation spots which give the appearnce of two lincolns, the second coin is no doubled die either sorry.Jazzcoins Joe
