Bid (not by me - but I would have liked to) up to $203 on ebay but didn't meet the reserve. Probably close to a $300 coin.

That coin is beautiful. I need to re-visit the cents. A lot of beauty to be had at minimal cost.

Now that is a nice cent , from the pics lokks like it should grade a point or 2 higher , that color must look great in hand .

You're right about the grade being low unless the pictures are misleading. A possible problem could be at 3 o'clock on the reverse. Was the rim hit or is that an issue with the strike?

I could be wrong but it doesn't look like a regular rim hit it's not angular at all , looks more like a curve . Still I'll take a coin like that at MS-62 All day .

Ah crap. If I would have known about that I probably would have blown away my fugio fund to start me a type set.

don't have a pic of the Rev. but how about this one....
    RB or just B??

IIRC this one is graded by PCI...but I don't get to see it much as it isn't mine...
A friend has had it for a few years now and I think it is a REALLY nice coin!

Garrett - don't do it! Coronet cents are easily found in this condition, but a nice Fugio is worth the wait.

Hard to say from the pics, but I'd say BN.

Back to the 1851 MS62, it's hard to tell from the small photos but there are scratches on Liberty's cheek and neck, the stars are kind of flat, the top of the crown looks worn (but it must just be a weak strike there since PCGS says it's MS), there's some futz in the field behind Liberty's head and there may be a hit or scrape on the lower left corner of the E of ONE. I think the depression at 3 o'clock on the reverse is a defect in the holder. MS62 could be one step low, but no more than that. A bigger photo would be helpful to decide.

Anyway, it didn't sell so it might be relisted, giving us another chance. I'm so far over my numismatic budget that I can't even think about trying for it.

    You betcha !

Some coins graded BN by major TPGs have some red. I recently picked up an 1816 N-2 MS61BN which has 10% red (more on the reverse).

Darn thing still has cartwheel ! Wonderful, original coin.

Good catch. Might be an issue with the planchet itself. It looks "as made", not "post mint".
