I just read this online about ebay. Seems they had a meeting yesterday and this is a result. I know its been discussed before but this concerns coin dealers. Coins are being listed in the same category as porn. Wow! Interesting read. Lets hear some comments. Ebay haters take it easy on this. I just feel sorry for the dealers.

Also wine and motor vehicles would fall under the same restrictions.

I still am not getting something here. People still are listing coins, I checked just 5 minutes ago under new listings.

I think this starts to take effect Sept. 9. Seems to me ebay is cutting out its big sellers like coins, cars, etc.

I won't be able to clear much inventory by then. What other sites are out there I can sign up for that have large coin markets? I heard of Etsy but I see mostly jokes about that website on cointalk. lol

USA Coin Book has coins listed for sale, and their commission is only 2% from what I am reading. I am considering listing a few items there myself.

I think the reason for eBay's action is the proliferation of scam / illegitimate sellers that have surface there and the beating they are taking over items "not as described."

Hopefully the scammers won't find this site too quickly. Yeah, Etsy is overrun with scam numismatic sellers...Z

Dunno, I think they advertise PayPal, so you're not going to get out of THOSE fees. I just started looking into that site myself. The other one I have looked briefly at was Heritage Auctions. I'll dig up a link.

Has nothing to do with that. eBay is switching to their own payment system because they want their cut of the revenue from it instead of that fee going entirely to a separate company.

Well, then there's that too. I was unaware.

I could only imagine the slew of issues they are having with all of those categories of products. Those are the top 10 categories, I am guessing, that they are seeing an influx of problem sales.

I doubt any one of those are in their top 10 categories. Coin sales I think were like 2% of total revenue. It's the processor they're using thats doing the restrictions not eBay. Of course eBay could have been smart and worked all this out in the years they've been planning to do this but that would make to much sense and imply a well run company

Understood. By top 10 I was implying the top 10 categories with PROBLEM sales, those that customers file complaints on - "Not As Described" upon arrival. Not top 10 in volume.

    All these categories are loathe for deception . . . . .

    - Adult only items, including movies and video games
    - Auction services
    - Bullion
    - Coins & paper money (only Exonumia, and Publications & Supplies are allowed)
    - Gift cards & coupons
    - Lodging, timeshares, vacation packages, and car rentals
    - Memberships for campground and RV parks
    - Motor vehicles
    - Smoking cessation products including nicotine patches and gum
    - Tickets for travel, events, or experiences
    - Wine

Realistically the problems don't really impact eBay as it isn't there money. That said yes they probably do have to step in the most in these categories and many of them are either expensive or have small margins. Many other categories the items are cheap enough or a big enough margin the sellers will just give an automatic refund

Interesting, today on ebay's front page (their promotional banner scroll) still displays coins & bullion on it, as if they're not really taking this seriously. Or they forget they had it on there.
