so it will be 3 circulating designs at once? What a waste of money. These new coins are becoming less of a "big deal" as they release more and more with fewer errors. And I seldom see any circulating other then the ones I spend and even then, you see them so little that one of the store clerks told me that my coin was counterfeit, and to come back when I got real money. How horrible.

I think they should start selling them for less than face. They'll still be making a decent profit on the coins if they sell at say $0.90, and people will start snapping them up to use in circulation then because they're making an instant 10% profit.

I'll say considering they are now paying to get rid of them. You give them face value for the coins and they will pay to ship them to you.

A $25 Roll of dollars would make a good stocking stuffer, grab-bag gift, or friendly donation during the Christmas season. Too bad the mint doesn't deliver this deal until January.

    Very best regards,

You can pick up a roll of Presidential dollars for this purpose.

    My bank has plenty.

They just look like they removed the most interesting part of the coin and are putting too many different coins into circulation.

I say we abolish the "golden dollar" and create a single 38mm clad dollar, or steel with a clad coating. Bring Liberty back too while we're at it. Of course, we'll need to get rid of the bill....ah wishful thinking.

Wow, the 2009 mint set is going to be bigger than all of the previous issues combined lol!! But seriously, it will contain twelve dollar coins, twelve quarters, eight lincoln cents, two each of the nickel, dime and half. That's a 40-coin set!

That's 38 coins not 40, and it's ten dollar coins not twelve making it a 36 coin set. On the other hand since it is a numismatic set the mint could also include both the plated zinc and 95% copper versions of the cent if they chose to making it 16 cents instead of 8. A 44 coin set.

I think you would have problems getting that to circulate even if you did eliminate the dollar bill. It would weight as much as four quarters and their is NOTHING that takes coins that size so EVERY vending machine would have to be modified and get a new coin mechanism to accept them. And it would cost almost as much to make as four quarters. So there would be absolutely no advantage to them. People would just carry the quarters since they weigh the same and the quarters would be much more usable. A 38 mm clad dollar would be a bigger albatross than what we have.

This is an excellent idea in theory, but if I know them like I think I know them, 'they' don't want the ignorant masses to be given the slightest inkling that their fiat currency might be worth less than the denomination they say. That could be a slippery slope and it will never happen. Then average people might begin asking questions.

There's people on the board of the Treasury who still believe all of our money is still backed by gold.

    I love your idea though.
