Hi I remember seeing an anicient coin with a bug eyed owl on it when I was like 8 or something and was wondering what it is and how much they cost. (I am not an ancient collector.)
190BC-55BC obv. Athena - Rich Stiles in Chelsea Michigan - XF $299 in Coinage magazine. Probably could do better elsewhere though.
Not the owl he's referring to, most likely. You probably saw an Athenian tetradrachm, or replica thereof. Like this one: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/ca...&fld=http://www.forumancientcoins.com/Coins2/ Available in various grades and styles from around $100-$12,000. Be careful and buy from vcoins, these are commonly counterfeited.
Can you actually snag a decent genuine Tetradrachm for a couple hundred $$s? Or what's realistic for a nice one? Common one is fine, would like this basic reverse design tho..
