You, who collect tokens, know many tokens were issued by banks and businesses as a substitute for coins during periods of coin scarcity.

Coin scarcity is the reason for this 1835 Prince Edward Island token:

Nice example isn't it? Do you have any tokens in your numismatic collection?

And what about this Token of Nova Scotia?

    And this New Zealand specimen?

    And this token from Algiers?

And here's a favorite of mine (I don't own one) from Cuba:

And what do you think about this New Brunswick specimen?

Because I know you are going to point out the wide spread use of transportation tokens, I am finishing this Trivia post with a transportation token from Ketchikan, Alaska which was good toward the fare of the Northern Bus Company or the O.J. White Cab Company.

Let me know if you enjoyed this trivia on tokens...

Clinker - nice post! You left out two favorite types of tokens that may be of interest to others. Check out these photos of two collections that are simply stunning to me:

    British Provincial/Conder tokens:

    Hard Times tokens:

I wish my collection of Conder tokens were as extensive as the above AND I wish I had the photographic skill both have so aptly displayed!
