Hi all, Here is a 1925 S Lincoln added to fill a hole today. Any opinions on a grade? and the change in color on the reverse? I do believe it's an alloy problem, but I'm not sure. It has a super strong strike on the reverse, and a horrible strike on the obverse, some nasty yellow stuff on his face too, But opinions are welcome.
First off, I doubt if your coloring is the alloy. Were it so, the front would have a similar pattern (the alloy goes through the coin). As for a grade, it is kind of hard to grade from pics, but pics of a poorly struck coin are much worse. How does xf-45 corroded and stained net fine sound
thanks RLM it's extremely hard to get good pics of a poorly struck cent. You should have seen the first few I took. So do you think the coloring we see would be the corrosion you mentioned? I figured XF40 details, and docked points for the stain on the obverse, Thanks again
Not what I am talking about for corrosion. Look in the "E PLURIBUS UNIM". I see several green specs in there. BTW, I forgot to mention the trench on the obverse. It appears to run from TRUST under the bust to LIBERTY. Any idea what is going on there?
Boy am I glad you got a new monitor My guess would be PVC damage, a strike-through, stained - F at best.
F Doug? Really? It has Full wheat stalks and minimal wear on the cheek, jaw, or hair. Or was you assessment of "F" a net grade? There is a trench but it isn't nearly as bad as it looks in the pictures, and appears to have come from the mint like that, I had to take the picture on an angle to get ANY detail at all to show in the weak struck face. What do you guys think would cause the discoloration on the reverse?
Yes F is a net grade - the coin has been damaged IMO. Not by the strike-through, by the PVC. I think a lot of what you are according to a weak strike is due to, at least some of, that damage.
