National Parks Quarters looks likely. http://www.coinnews.net/2008/12/11/quarters-for-10-years-set-to-honor-parks-4604/ Just a Presidential signature away from being law. The Senate passed it today.
I'm all for new stuff and I love that the silver proof set will continue to be large!!! But this is a rather boring idea for a series. I think an interesting series would be a set of reverse designs by competition over a series of several years. I know this is basically already done for each series, but what about random open submissions. This could yield some interesting coins.
there might be a competition from the civil rights quarter 40 design. the national park is 56 design.
I think we need a series of quarters commemorating Cars of the 50's and 60's, followed by a series of Disney Characters or Flowers of the World.
they need to hurry up and finish commemorating everything, i wanna see what the next "permanent" quarter design will be. or maybe they're just getting greedy because of all the money state quarters made them...?
Well folks here come the next 56 or 112 designs. The legislation has some interesting provisions. All 56 sites have to be selected within the next 270 days The quarters will be issued in the order in which the sites became national sites. The Sec of the Treasury and not the mint or the Fed is to decide how many of each design to issue The Sec has to decide in the 9th year whether he wants to do a second round of 56 more designs. And for those of you who want to know what the permanent design for the quarter will be once this is all over (Assuming they don't add yet another program) The bullion coin provisions are also interesting They require a 3 inch 5 oz 999 fine coins of each design with the weight and fineness on the edge. No fractional sizes will be made. The denomination of this behemoth will still be a quarter dollar. They will be sold by the authorized dealers who handle the silver gold and platinum eagles. And the Director of the Parks Service can now also get into the act of selling them, and they can sell them at cost to any party affiliated with the national site honored.
Well, that should give our great-great grandchildren something to look forward to. I think by the time they get done commemorating stuff, our relatives will be piloting their flying cars to the mini golf on Mars. Guy~
Well our congress is turning the Mint into the next US Postal Office. I am quitting collecting quarters after the 6 next year. I don't suppose there is any chance that it won't get signed or vetoed is there? I am shocked this got ramrodded thru a lame duck session.
The bill says National Historic SITES, not just parks And unless they pass more legislation they will still only do two of them. And how come the "permanent" quarter is a repeat of the NJ quarter? Think any of the other states might object to that if and when it looks like it might happen?
