I saw these, and they look too new to be real. Your opinion? Ebay item number: 270316674008

The same guy has these other trade dollars: 270316672888, 270316672910, 270316672872

fake. I've seen them 4-sale in Bangkok

The appearance is fake. I believe that Thailand is one of the countries where it is not illegal to make the coins of another nation. Does anyone know if this is true?

In Thailand, the fakes can be found for sale along with counterfeit DVDs and Rolex watches. The DVDs and Rolex clones are more popular with the tourists. However, if you are like me & asking for coins, then you will be offered many fakes.

    Very best regards,

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

No brainer fake. A glance at the rims/dentils is all it takes for me.

Not to be a smart aleck, but raw coins from Asia are almost certainly a scam, especially when being sold by a -0- feedback seller.

It would be instructive for those who are not in the know to be a bit more informative in your answers. Okay, you say they're fake, buy what do you see that will tell others what to look for?

For starters the rims and denticles (aka dentils) are wrong. There should be one rim and the denticles should run up to the rim.

Trade Dollars are heavily counterfeited so any raw Trade Dollar should be looked at very carefully - ESPECIALLY Trade Dollars on eBay being sold by a seller from SE Asia.

I forgot to mention the hole in the reverse rim about 9:00, either from casting or a problem with transfer medium.

MM looks ok to me, I have found 6 0r 7 mintmark positions for the 77-cc, this looks like one of them. Most of the TD fakes seem to be made from dies/molds taken directly from genuine examples.

    Sure!

    "0" Feedback seller.

    Seller located in Asia

    $1 No Reserve

    Raw Coin

    Commonly counterfeited coin

    Relatively valuable coin

    Lousy description

Seller has 4 IDENTICAL copies listed. I've got about 100 copies of the 28-S quarter, the vast majority are VG/F and I don't think I could find 4 out of that pile that look virtually identical. Let alone a coin with a mintage of about 500,000 or so, made 130 years ago from a series that was heavily melted down. On top of that we have 4 copies in Asia without chop marks.

I don't even need to see pictures to tell you that these were minted by the Tooth Fairy, from Silver mined by the Easter Bunny and the seller is really Santa Claus.

I don't want to sound harsh, but buying a raw coin like this on eBay, under these circumstances, is riskier than emptying out your 401K, taking it to Vegas and throwing it all on red or black.
