Hi guys. I really need some experts to look into this coin. Some collectors have presumed this coin to be a counterfeit, and they have not even seen it yet. So I'm posting some photos here of the actual coin for your assessment. I don't even know the value of this coin or the material used, grade, and everything. I used a scale accurate to only 0.1. Actual weight of this coin is 21.1 grams and according to my calipers is 39.5 or 39.6mm.
I'd say fake, just be the texture of the fields. Also: It should be silver. link to an image of a real one (?): http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/collection/database/?irn=307705&img=90507 Take a look: Different beard, haircut, and on yours he got a nose job.
definitely. There is a zero percent chance of this being authentic. I saw a similar on an an older thread that I was tempted to bump.
I'm convinced guys. This is not actually my coin. A friend just wanted me to show it because he is convinced it is genuine. hahaha Thank you guys. :hail::hail:
This coin is fake. I had a similar coin myself but it was the authentic one. To @treashunt you are wrong, they also make copper versions of this coin, I've had one myself years ago, except there were only 18 made in existence in the entire world. All 18 were counted for and are all now held in muesems all over the world. They made 18 copper 1883 Kalakaua I King of Hawaii coins and they also made 496,893 silver 1883 Kalakaua I King of Hawaii coins. This coin is extremely rare, I sold mine at an auction for $17,000 and it was donated to the National State of Hawaii Muesem or something like that. If this coin was real, you struck rich :goofer: but it is fake. Reason being is the texture of the coin, the beard and hair as well and his nose is completley different from a real one. A real one, his nose is more inward and smaller than usual. Sorry to bring you down but this coin isn't worth anything. It is a replica which are still made to this day for tourists that visit Hawaii but it is worth $2-$10? If that is anything to you. It was worth a try though right? Oh and also, a real coin like this would NOT, ABSOLUTLEY NOT, weigh only 21.1 grams!!!!!!!! A real coin like this, would estimate somewhere around 49.2-52.6 grams, it is/used to be a very heavy coin!! Have a great day.
I also have the same coin I have the same coin. Kalakaua I King of Hawaii. It has a small paper showing the Islands Kingdom of Hawaii on one side the other says AKAHI DALA King Kalakaua I initiated Silver Coinage Legal Tender Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Hawaii. It looks the same as yours. I have not checked but I would guess it is a replica since it is in a little coin package with the paper. If you find out it is of any value please let me know.
Hair is wrong, the beard is wrong, the eye is wrong, the denticals are wrong, the lettering is wrong and the date font is wrong and that is without looking at the reverse. I don't think I need to go on.
