I'm not going to write very much about these two historical figures, mainly because I can't add much to what hasn't already been discussed here many times before. Both very recognisable images but ones that I've been after for a while: Cleopatra VII (Of Julius Caesar and Marc Antony fame) 80 drachmae. I thought it had a nice portrait.......or what's left of it. Better details, on obverse and reverse, than my 40 drachmae. Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, Cleopatra VII Thea Neotera Æ Diobol - 80 Drachmai. Alexandria, 51-30 BC. Diademed and draped bust right / KΛEOΠATPAΣ BAΣIΛIΣΣHΣ, eagle standing left on thunderbolt; cornucopia to left, Π to right. Svoronos 1871; Weiser 183; SNG Copenhagen 419-21; Noeske 380-2. 16.52g, 26mm, 11h. Julius Caesar AR Denarius. Rome, 40 BC. Q. Voconius Vitulus, moneyer. Laureate head of Caesar right / Bull-calf walking left; Q•VOCONIVS above, VITVLVS•Q DESIGN in two lines below, S-C across fields. Crawford 526/4; CRI 331; Sydenham 1133; BMCRR Rome 4311-2; RSC 45. 3.62g, 21mm, 9h. Well centred obverse and a very slightly off-centre reverse plus I liked the portrait in spite of the large wart on his cheek
...those are super-dandies!...ya know, that JC coin would complete my 12 Caesars silver...wouldn't loan it for a while woodja?!?.......let me correct that....i'd still lack 2...
Awesome (and historical very significant) additions. Two of some of the most famous historical figures in one catch, congratulations! I saw the Caesar in the Roma auction, nice to see it went to a member of this board. That's a very nice portrait indeed. The bankers mark is at most a tiny distraction.
You're gonna have to travel back in time for one of those accessories.......and it'll cost you a bit too
