Coin albums

I bought a set of albums from the hobby store for my daughter, which was fine to get started but she wants to be able to display both sides of her coins in her album. Any suggestions for her.

The albums usually have one slot to show an example of the Reverse. All Wheat Cents have the same design so you don't really need to look at every single Reverse.. there is no difference.

 

There are other albums such as DANSCO that display both sides. They cost more but might be worth looking at.

 

I tried to show her that the reverse sides are the same. She said " I know", I haven't been able to figure out how to win an argument with an 11 year old girl.

BTW, some of the albums like the one you are showing have a tendency over long periods to stain or discolor the back side of the coins.

 

It's more expensive than the coins but a Dansco album shows both sides.

 

I had some blue albums long time ago that had clear plastic slides I think they were Whitman's,. Probably hard to find might even be collectables their self's!

 

Yep picked this up recently and had no key dates but some uncirculated and nicely toned 50s LWCs

Pretty sure circa 1961 because no individual dates on the holes after that year...

 

Whitman Classic albums display both sides of the coins, as well as the Dansco albums. Most coin supply retailers carry them. I believe Littleton has an album that does, too. The Whitman albums run somewhere between $17 and about $27 depending on the number of pages. Used ones are available on Ebay at a small savings.

what she wants me to do is get 2x2 plastic coin slabs and place them in an album with pages that will accept the 2x2's then she wants me to print a sheet with info about the coins on that album page that she can add into the album

 

Not for nothing, but Hobby Lobby has a 40% off one regular priced item, anytime coupon on the website and have a small coin collecting supply section in each store. their website only shows folders, but I know for a fact the stores in my area also had Whitman albums and the website does show additional album pages.

the albums that show front and back aren't cheap but with a 40% off coupon, it's manageable. Anyways, your daughter is right, each coin is unique and she won't want to take them out and handle them each time just to check the back sides!

LOL already in the collector mindset, good for her!

And it's a kids penny collection, no need to get crazy about it but those pop in folders are the bottom of the line and seems like she's starting to take the hobby a bit more seriously. A good thing.

 

If it were my kid I'd say "hey, it's your collection, not mine, I'm not doing all the work, I have a job already!" LOL

 

I did something similar for my nieces and nephews, with a coin from each decade of the 20th century for Christmas last year. I used a 3 ring binder, coin pages and 2x2 flips with the description and year of each coin on a 2x2 piece of paper (printed not written, I have horrible handwriting) and slid it in the back part of the flip. The kids loved it!!
I wish I had done one for myself so I could show it to you, but alas, I didn't
