A well worn Two Cent piece. It has a beautiful bluish toning that I just can't pick up with the camera.

That 2 cent piece has seen a bit of history.

Can you tell from what letters are showing if it is a small or large motto?
The ones I have are all large.

Odd how the grade on the dated side is barely Good, while the other
side could pass for Very Good- .

Based on the position of the "D" in "GOD" I think it's a large motto.

Unfortunately no I can't but I'd go with Large until I can prove otherwise. Of course I would prefer it to be the small letter variety.

Large motto no doubt. Look at the outer leaf below GOD. On the large motto it is thin and follows the curve of the leaf below it. In the small motto it is thick, bulbous, and comes close to the ribbon above it. This difference is visible even on VERY worn coins.

As I said, it's too worn to be 100% sure but I'm going with large date until I can prove otherwise.

Considering that you can't read the motto, I would have passed on it. But then I prefer that because it's the first time that motto was put on a coin. JMHO

I knew it was an AG-3, G-4 at best. It was only a few dollars so I couldn't go wrong.

Never known that diagnostic. Thanks again, as always, for your insight. This is a great help.
And the coin looks great, too!

Thanks, not bad for the wear. And the toning that us has is very nice but I can't get it on a photo. I just figure that in the Civil War it was well circulated in the last few years. Lol

I know what you mean with that interesting sheen-blue tone. I like it a lot.
