Once a week I stop at all the banks in my area to get penny boxes. For the past 4 weeks I cant even get a roll. Im thinking about hand rolling some rolls and trying to exchange them instead of just trading bills for coins. Maby they will be more willing to trade my 5 dollars in pennies for their 5 dollars in pennies. Anyone else having similar problems and have tips for getting boxes during the shortage?
Good luck with getting boxes. Most of the people on here have said that their roll hunting has almost come to a grinding halt. I haven't even tried to go get any boxes because I realize how much of a pain it would be. If you've ever gotten a bad look from a teller when you asked pre covid, I'm sure you could multiply that by 10 now. I don't think that offering to exchange the cents is the ticket either. I think a break from it is more in order, especially if you're having a difficult time like you say. Good luck though!
I get 1 or 2 boxes of cents a week. Down from 4 a week since the coin shortage started. The only way I manage it is because the bank I am with had been ordering me boxes before and were allowed to order 2 boxes a week after the shortage started based on their previous orders. I've offered to stop ordering but they told me that they don't mind doing it since it doesn't cost them anything extra to do it. They are awesome. That being said, I can't get rolls of anything else.
My main bank is nice about it and allowed me to order which is what I used to do but now they cant even order for their selves so Ive stopped asking for boxes. I was told by the main teller though that they would still save older bills and halves for me
Yeah they are super awesome. Like I said, I offered to stop and they assured me that it was no problem. I offered to stop when the pandemic hit and the lobby reduced hours. The told me they didn't mind doing it. They are truly great.
The ladies at my bank have a hard time getting coin right now and have been told by their "uppers" not to give out coin boxes, only a couple of rolls at a time. So I worked out an arrangement with them to keep a box of quarters and nickels in my car and every time their new shipment of coins come in I switch the boxes with them so I can go through them. They place their next order and when it comes in, I exchange boxes again. Keep us both happy and them out of trouble.
You'd think that with all the extra time at home this pandemic has brought, that I'd have no problem getting through 2 boxes a week. Instead, I am 12 boxes behind and picking up another 1 or 2 tomorrow.
I like this idea. I have about 16 boxes of solid 2019P cents that I haven't searched or opened and I'd like to trade them out for mixed boxes. I tried to trade a couple boxes with a different bank and they looked at me like I was a nutjob (which is not too far off the mark).
Dont worry furry Im banned from 2 of the bank of americas in my town because they thought I was trying to change scam them with the trade.
My banks can't get boxes either, but, they have been exchanging roll for roll without any problems. Only my problem now is, I did a swap last week and this week tried it again and got four rolls of quarters back that I trade in the week before. I will try another branch come Monday.
