i came across this quarter months ago at work and kept it because it caught my eye, little did i know it has an S mint mark, but the 50 state quarters only have P and D mint marks, wheres this quarter from? also i dont own a scanner so any pictures i take are cell phone pics and they are not very good, i can still post them though
It's from a proof set some body took it out and spent it. They don't mint s mints for circulation ,what you call bussiness strike coins.,and the coin has to be a proof coin. I think you should try and post it to give an accurate description of the coin Jazzcoins Joe
they speak the truth, it is a proof coin. although its pretty rare that you find a proof quarter in circulation...
Yep, definitely a proof. Based on your pictures, it is a clad proof as you can see the copper on the edge. Nice find!!! :thumb:
Very nice find IMHO!! Even though not rare, still a great to find a proof from circulation IMO. :thumb: Phoenix
The only one i ever found in circulation was a 1985 Kennedy proof and i was shocked. I guess some little kid didn't get his allowance .and got mad and took his old mans proof sets out, and got a hammer:hammer: :hammer:and cracked them open and spent them I will teach my old man a lesson for not giving me my allowance. Interesting. One day, while riding my bicycle along a heavily trafficed street, I spotted a proof set holder. Naturally I stopped to check it out. The holder was empty and the coins were cracked out. So, they may have also been spent.
Is this a joke or what is that just a follow up of my thread the kid with the allowance. jazzcoins Joe:mouth:
i really believe some guy gave his young child a proof set thinking he will keep and enjoy it and maybe start him into collecting, but as kids are, they don't know values so he cracked it open and spent it, i just bought my 2 niece's each an uncirculated set of the years of their birth, which is 2003 and 2004, but im giving it to their parents to hold untill they are old enough to NOT spent it, lol
great find. I have only found one proof in circulation. It was a 1977 proof nickel. I was so excited. about a PF 58 I still have it.
