This coin strikes me as odd, the toning appears to be painted on, and the overall surface of the coin its just weird, some places pitted other places like its brand new... Thoughts on this coin? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1882-CC-Carson-City-Morgan-Silver-Dollar-RARE-COIN/254688781863?hash=item3b4ca26627:g:YDwAAOSwwH5fOBmg
They ended it because it was a pretty bad fake. Hopefully the seller was informed and did the right thing.
A dead giveaway is the tiny black dots or blemishes, especially on the reverse. This is one sign of a casted fake.
Here's the coin in question. It's a as fake as Captain Hooks hook hand. Awful looking. Looks like the garbage sold en masse on Etsy.
It's all about flying under the radar. If you're trying to sell a fake 1892 CC you're going to attract some attention. This seller, has a bunch of fake Morgan common dates. https://www.etsy.com/shop/MintedGuru?ref=l2-about-shopname Plus a few better date fake coins in slabs. Which I've already reported to Etsy and PCGS. This seller has 275 sales atm. Even common fakes will bring in a nice profit. Considering the cheap price these go for at a site like Wish, the profit is tremendous. No point in bringing out the expensive fakes if you want to stay in business.
Yeah I know, and TOTALLY understand, and agree w/ what you’re talking about. Which makes it even more sleazier and stupid.
This guy is a lowlife. I feel bad for the people he (most likely) ripped off. But maybe? It’s their own fault? I’m conflicted? Although, I’m far from perfect myself. I ALWAYS do my own research/homework, before I pull the trigger on a coin on Ebay or etc. That helps. Good post though. People need to read stuff like that.
