There were several threads relating to this shipwreck and some of the silver. It’s a fun story to read how they found it. It is the very first foreign piece I have ever purchased. - I loved the old Anacs holder - I have always wanted a shipwreck piece - I wanted to make sure I could read the date and see details of the coin - I wanted a big hunk of silver... not some tiny piece - It is the oldest thing I now own - I found it kinda hilarious that Anacs actually put a grade on it
It has the typical seawater corrosion, but for an El Cazador piece, that's not bad at all. Pretty typical quality for the finds from that wreck. When I owned one, it was also in an old small white ANACS holder like that, and looked about the same. Most were 1783 8-reales pieces. Cool piece of history there.
That is quite a fine addition there @bradgator2. Your coin is certainly one of the better El Cazador 8 reales I've seen. Plenty of these coins are barely recognizable due to the nearly two centuries of saltwater exposure.
Yeah, I saw plenty like that. I had zero interest in a coin where I couldn’t even tell what it was. I was thinking about a SS Republic piece. Those coins look amazing. But still a tad pricey.
