Yes I can, that coin is beautiful, absolutely exquisite in every way. And don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think that someone who less than one week ago was asking which grading company is better is in a position to question the grading skills of NGC and publicly claim that they have over-graded a coin by 2 points. You looked at a photo and guessed MS67. They looked at the coin and gave it a 68 without guessing.

Do you really think the coin would sell for a 50% premium over wholesale if it was grossly overrated. Perhaps it is your grading skills that are grossly overrated.

There is no doubt that some collectors will love this coin and find it immensely attractive and others will abhor it an think it is one of the ugliest coins they have ever seen. And I respect you opinion to hate the coin, but please don't present yourself as an expert grader in the process.

I am sorry if my response sounded a little harsh, but I want to clarify something. I absolutely respect your opinion to hate that coin and you can call it the ugliest coin you have ever seen. That doesn't bother me.

The part of your post that did bother me was "Also, this coin should be a 66."

I actually wanted every other person in the world to think exactly what you did. Unfortunately, there are some really sick toning freaks out there that think the coin is beautiful as I do, and now one of them owns it instead of me.

BTW. Drunk posting is really fun. I do that from time to time and it is great for stirring up controversy. It makes for very entertaining reading for the other members as well. Remember, DONT DRINK AND DRIVE, DRINK AND POST instead.

I won't post a grade since, it has already been revealved. However since the coin is fully banded and blemish free it does deserve a higher grade. The toning and fingerprint is more an issue of does it detract from the coin's beauty on a more personal level than an objective level of the coin's other merits. My opinion is that while the coin itself is gorgeous the toning does detract from it quite a bit. I wouldn't buy it myself. However, if you dipped it... ;)

I graded this coin an MS66, but i'm not really shocked that it received a higher grade. The coin is a well struck coin with full bands AND it seems to have nice luster in spite of the toning

The beauty of toned coins is that every one coin is unique in it's own natural toned way, which makes these coins interesting. I;m not an advid collector of toned coins ,because i can;t afford them. I could understand why a serious toned coin collector would invest in this coin it is unique like i said. I personally don't think this coin was dipped.

I think the grading company looked at this coin and said nice strike, NICE luster , there is full bands that's why it got that grade, and mecury dimes are become more scarce in general to find in higher grades . So what one collector sees in a toned coins may be different in what others might see that's what makes the world go round.

I like the toning on the left side of the fasces on the the back. I don't like the right side and I don't mind the obverse much. (From a guy that used to HATE toning) I'm not a fan of red though.

Seriously, check the hair detail on the temple, I spent a long time looking for a coin so well struck and I had to go back to 1934 before I found one I could afford. The 1940's typically have weak strikes in that area from what I've seen.

That's not true. I said I wouldn't pay a huge premium for it...but I felt the coin could have a substantial premium because of what I have seen toned coins go for in the past. While this coin's toning didn't appeal to me, I had no doubt that there are many toned collectors out there who love coins like this and because of the unique arrangement of colors...it would attract serious attention. So, it doesn't surprise me at all that it went for a high premium. I simply felt this toning didn't "float my boat" so I wouldn't have paid a large premium for it. :D

Beauty (eye appeal) is in the eye of the beholder. ;)

I totally agree. I think the luster is gorgeous, absolutely stunning. Where if it was not as nice as it is, then I wouldn't think it was a nice coin to be honest. I do like the toning, but that luster is what helps enhance the toning IMHO.

except that it is the second uglyiest coin I'd ever seen after after that over spotted Dime.

This coin is so ugly that its value is less than melt because the silvesilver would be fightened by it.

How much more of a premium would you pay for it if I put it in a high speed food processor with a quart of oil! Then I bet you'd give a 50% premium.

This coin gives dipping a good name.
