Starting since I was a teen I have always kept a small pouch of 15-20 various world coins for the sole purpose of acting, roleplaying games, and cosplay scenarios. US coins never seemed to have the correct "jingle" in comparison to gold or silver or even movie sound effects. These days it's usually a combination of some larger Canadian coins, a few English shillings, and some other random things like a bimetallic Mexican peso and obsolete recent European coins in 20-50 cent/ore/pfennig/etc sizes. These seem to sound the best and are reasonably attainable. Anyone else likewise have a set of coins that don't serve a collectible purpose? Don't get me wrong, one of my favorite World coins sounds terrible, the Finnish aluminum penni. But my world coins are not collector pieces even though I collected them. Thank you for indulging.
I guess I have never really wondered what my coins sound like. Myself, I would probably start with a bag of GB Large cents or bag of junk silver halves as a starting point.
@Dobbin In my opinion, a bag of mixed GB pre-decimal coinage would be the way to go for what you're describing. Post-1946 copper-nickel florins and half-crowns could easily give you the added weight and sound for a fraction of the price compared to pre-1947 coinage.
