I agree. I'm sure it was announced that 1912 was going to be the last year of the design and as a result it was probably greatly hoarded. This is just like the 1909-S VDB cent. Even though it is the key coin in the series, the 1914-D is much more valuable in high grades despite have more than 3x the mintage...it's because the 1909s were hoarded because they were the first year.

It is. I figured that as long as I'd have to drop some dough to pick up a key date, I'd pay a bit extra for a really nice specimen.

Cool. Yeah, as far as the 85 is concerned, the proof seems a lot more plentiful than a BU example in that year. I think I would like to add just one nice certified proof to my liberty collection that I can velcro onto the binder for display.

It would be a sight to behold I'm sure to see that set that you mentioned Collect.89 This must be a really tough set to complete in MS-65. I personally like the look of these coins when they are circulated almost as much as in the higher grades. I don't know why, because there arent many coin designs I can say that about.I just purchased a nice set from ebay( minus the 85 86, and 12-s) that are mostly problem free vg-8ish, so I'll have a lot more to share with you guys for grade opinions. I have all of the early dates, but they are mostly ag or problem coins, so I figured I'd just upgrade them all at once for my dansco and sell the lower quality pieces as a set. :) I'll post some of them when they arrive.

I'm honestly amazed at some of the deals I've been getting lately on the bay. It must a result of the economy, so I'm sure the values are dropping; but still.
