I just received this raw U.S. Philippines coin in the mail today. The rims appear to have a slant to them (see the area I marked in red on the photo. It goes around both sides of the coin. Is this a minting characteristic, or could it be PMD? I was thinking for example a jewelry mount.
I meant it as a general question that could apply to any coin, but can repost there if needed. I just know that putting a coin in a bezel can cause damage but wasn’t sure what that damage would look like.

Not damaged just not fully struck rims. Take a look at a bunch of coins from your pocket change and you will probably find more of them. After upsetting the edge of the planchet is typically rounded. When the coin is struck and starts expanding outward the center of the edge makes contact with the collar and develops a flat vertical edge and then bevels up to where the flat surface of the rim is developing. As the strike continues the flat section on the edge gets broader, and the bevel gets smaller until on a fully struck coin it disappears completely. If the strike doesn't become full it leaves the bevel you see on this coin.
To me I think a bezel caused that bug you should repost in World coins as I don't know about that countries coinage.
