    Hello,
So today I decided to take all of my Metal Detected clad, nickel and Cent finds for the last 6 months. There were many! I needed a small hand truck to bring them to the cashier a few blocks from my job.

It started off well as I was putting in the coins slowly and then after like 10 minutes the machine got jammed

I went to the sole cashier and ask her for assistance but she was not able to do so at that moment and told me to return in 1 hour when her co-worker would return. She had me take a picture of the Coinstar screen and gave me a sign to attach to it stating Out Of Service..:nailbiting:

I returned 1 hour later to find the same attendant cleaning the inside of the machine and 1 other person waiting to also use it. She had reset the computer and my coin count was gone. I gasped!
But the cashier tells me "Don't worry I printed out your receipt!" :wideyed:

But then the other person that was waiting was in a hurry and I had to tell them that I still had coins inside the Coinstar to be counted and a few more in a small bag.. She tells me "I didn't see you here and those coins are mine".. Unbelievable

Luckily the cashier was able to verify that I was asked to return and told her to wait. The person became upset and that's when 2 cops came into the cashier.. I stated "If you want to continue with your lies we can talk to those policemen".. She quickly shut up and said nothing.

I put it a few more coins and got a couple of more bucks.. About $3.55

So.. What was my grand total?

    $207.54 Deposited
    - $24.69 Coinstar fee
    -----------------------------------
    $182.85 + $3.55 = $186.40 :woot:

It was a good day for my wallet

Was that average for the 6 month period?

It was somewhat more than my last visit. I have been detecting a lot more in the past several months then the last 6 months of last year. And I haven't even done the beaches yet!

I think my pulse increased when I read about the person trying to abscond with your money. Luckily there was a happy ending. That's quite a bonus for 6 months of detecting. Very nice!

Does it bother anyone else that the display says "Pennies?" :D

Thanks.. That was not including my US Silver coin finds and silver rings I have detected.
The Silver melt value is almost $100.00
But I'm not planning to turn that in just yet :hungry:

I am aware of "Penny Loafers," which I'm assuming you're referring to, but I knew absolutely no one who wore them. I just think it's funny that a lot of people here complain when newcomers use the term "penny," because that seems to be how society at large usually refers to them. I have no problem with the term, but I know it riles a lot of coin collectors. :D

My gosh. I am in shocked form the "processing fee". Are all Coinstars that expensive? I have never rolled coins or paid one cent in processing fees. I have always had banks with automatic counters do it for free. Am I living in a weird utopian universe or something?

@paddyman98 it sounds like a fun day you had. I'm surprised someone didn't try to rob you while walking with that hand truck. No, not really, what self respecting crook would want to work that hard? Stay safe.

A few years back my bank which is CapitalOne had coin dump machines.. I never paid any fees since I was their customer. Then they removed all the machines because they weren't making any money.
Not enough fees were being charged because mostly members brung in their coins. I was so upset with that decision :(

I can't wait for that to happen.. Over 30 years as a Black Belt. Fortunately haven't had to use my training!

Are you ready? Never know when. My wife and I both have Concealed Handgun Licenses. I hope we never need ours. And, every time we go to qualify she out scores me.

I have had that happen to me. I simply inform the manager that without both a free change counter and SDB I cannot use your bank. They usually tell me to take a hike. Their loss. My current local bank I actually also use as accounts for the company I am CFO for, so that bank benefits much greater than just turning down an average customer. I usually keep a few million in the bank for the firm, and maybe $50k for myself, so I would guess it pays for them to have free coin counters and SDBs. :)

My mother-in-law asked the VP of her bank to call her. Some investment thing she wanted to talk about. He never called. She waited a week then went down and removed all her money, business and personal accounts. Later that bank had a promotion. Open an account for $10,000 or more and receive a service for 8 of gold plated flatware. Well, guess what, my wife inherited a nice set of gold plated flatware. Of course, my mother-in-law withdrew that 10 grand as soon as the time period was up.

For that much money, I suppose it's worth the Coinstar Cut.

I had an apple juice bottle that I filled up with only nickels. Took like 3 years but I had over $82-$85 in nickels at the end. Since they were all nickels, it was easy to roll myself and save myself the CSC

That's not a bad deal. Chase Bank had a special promo offer: $750 FREE CASH if you open up a business checking, deposit $3,000, and do some other random stuff.

I used my former military status to waive the monthly fee ($12) and got my free $750. I had to keep the $3k in the account for at least 6 months, but that's still the greatest ROI I've ever had on an "investment"
