How do you ship coins to the UK with the "Prohibitions (130)"?

OK ... so now I know - through losing a Julius Caesar denarius in the UK (and being denied a claim), that eBay; InsurePost, etc. WILL NOT insure a coin shipment to the UK.

USPO site states under United Kingdom that shipping coins to the UK is prohibited - see Prohibitions 130 under United Kingdom.

With that said ... How do you ship high-end coins to the UK and feel confident against a loss?

    Thank & regards, Fred

USPS insurance covers numismatic coins, when they say coins in the restrictions they literally mean trying to send someone cash. Bullion generally isn't covered either. As far as ancient coins there are additions restrictions on those that go beyond insurance and no insurance will pay if it is just something that wasn't supposed to be getting imported to exported to that country

I was denied a UK shipment claim last year by the USPS because I sent it insured International First Class.

First class insurance stops at the boarder. Need to use Priority or Express mail. Most if not all of the third party insurers I am familiar with won't allow insurance on international first class either

Thanks, baseball21 - That certainly clears it all up. Ship to UK ... Priority or Express Insured - Git it! - Much appreciated - Fred

Either I'm having a serious instance of deja vu, or there was a detailed thread on this exact subject not so long ago. If you search for it, you'll probably find it.

To clarify - I never really received a definitive answer in my previous post.

baseball21's crisp response "Need to use Priority or Express mail. Most if not all of the third party insurers I am familiar with won't allow insurance on international first class either" is what I was looking for.

If I upset members ... so be it.

Seeking answers on this forum that are 100% useful and clear should never be offensive.

It’s not offensive it’s just one of those why help when I said that in the first one too. It’s fine if people don’t want to believe what I say as no one should blindly be believed, but some research would have shown that too.

You’re best off using threads for suggestions then look into it. People will generally lose interest in trying to help if they gave the answer before then a new thread pops up where the answer is the same.

Wow, with that type of approach to FREE advice, why would anyone WANT to help you?

Sorry for my lack of kindness and diplomacy. No offense intended.

Insurepost dot com insures USPS first class international packages to a number of countries. Their terms explicitly include "collectible coins".
