    1) NGC. I like them based on what I have seen. They will also grade G$A Dollar$ which i$ very nice of them to do $o.
    2) PCGS. Marketplace seems to like em.
    3) ANACS
    4) Umm........... ICG?
    5) DominionGrading, if they are at all accurate... time will tell but I like their online imaged pop reports.

For me, NGC is #1 and PCGS #2...that's really about it. I suppose ANACS is #3, but there is a huge gap between #2 and #3. All the others are basically worthless IMHO.

Yes, I should have added that in my post as well. The gap between NGC PCGS and everyone else seems to be pretty big.

NGC would be my first choice because they have greater consistency and are more accurate than PCGS IMO. PCGS is second of course - there would be no others beyond that for me.

PCGS , NGC , and one I used to like but can't tell anymore it's been sold too many times ANACs , the rest I wouldn't send a coin to .

Agree with all. NGC first. PCGS second. But would you pay a premium for NGC over PCGS for the same grade, or is it too close to call?

I wouldn't pay a premium for either. The grade on the slab is an opinion of the grader...nothing more. You must look at the coin and decide what it's worth too you...the slab should have nothing to do with what you're willing to pay IMHO.

No, I would not pay any premium for any coin based soley on the slab. But I have often paid a premium based on the coin itself ;)

It's amazing how often this gets forgotten. The slab means nothing as far as value...all that matters is the coin. If there is something about the coin you like, then pay what it is worth to you to get it...even if that is a premium.

Nope. I would not pay a premium for any slab. But one of the reasons I like NGC is that coins slabbed by PCGS have been going for more money. And I don't think its worth paying more for PCGS coins because a. Buy the coin not the slab and b. NGC is, IMO, just as good if not better than PCGS.

That is a tough issue, because there are a few series where there is definitely a difference in grading standards between NGC and PCGS. Anyone who collects high grade Jefferson Nickels know that PCGS is much more conservative in their grading and rarely give out an MS67. The PCGS price guide is still ridiculous for the series, but PCGS Jeffersons definitely bring higher prices at auction than do the NGC counterparts.

I am probably going to be alone in my choice of ANACS. I only own two slabbed coins and both are ANACS, and I've never owned a PCGS or NGC slab. I do like the angled top of an ANACS slab, it shows the date from the top.

Problem I have is that most all of the nice stuff that I have been considering lately are all in slabs.

Is the huge gap because #1 and 2 have a better reputation so there coins in the market sell higher? No doubt they do have a better repuation, but is it warrented?

I have coins in both holders, it is a myth that PCGS is better. BUT, they do sell quicker.

I learned long ago that it's the perception of quality that means far more in the marketplace than actual quality.

I buy the coin, not the slab. The slabs really are nothing more than a nuisance to me. I have seen examples of gradeflation in every companies slab.

Grading coins is a personal opinion, and my opinion of a coin matters more than anyone elses'.

So I vote for my own little grading company - MOI!
