How cool would an annual reverse silver proof set be to add to the mints offerings? I'd buy em!!!!

I doubt you'll see them at this point considering that the mint is slimming things down, but yo can get some great Ausie reverse proof coins

I think reverse proofs are neat, but if they did them all the time they would lose their mystique to me. I'd prefer they use them sparingly.

Good point, but considering some of the stuff they have put out lately this would be a cool set.

They are cool...but I wouldn't want an annual set. I think the occasional commemorative in reverse proof would be great. But, I think the key is the coin's artwork needs to be designed with the reverse proof in mind. IMHO, the ASE reverse proof from 2006 wasn't overly attractive. Although I want one, I felt the design didn't adapt to the reverse well. Now, the Australian proof that Ruben posted looks great as a reverse proof. I don't know if that design was intended to be reverse only, but the reverse looks very good with that art.

That is a really cool Australian Coin. Thanks for sharing. I may have to add a few to the collection.

there is something more to it that that. Obviously the design is created for a reverse proof but why be limited? The frost and polish can be used in an even more creative way like in the Panda

This is neither reverse nor normal. Its important when designing a coin to create a design with the material and technology in mind for the art which is being produced. It's thought of this a lot and can think of several designs that are exclusively brilliant on a specific alloy and with a specific minting technique.

Morgans for example, can seem to be repoduced with modern minting equipment. They are special to the material and techique of the period.

Good thing Panda's freak me out. Way over budget for coins latley.

I like reverse proofs also... and I would buy a yearly set.

I just think it would be neat to see a full reverse proof set in silver, even a one time set would be fine. Wonder what the Sac would look like in a reverse?

I bought a few of the 2013 ASE Proofs and RP's as a novelty.....seems they really came down in price even more than the silver price, no ?

Agreed. It's one reason I bought the 2014 Kennedy 4-coin set.

    But only for special-occasion coins.

OTOH, for years (since 2012?) the RCM has produced a series of reverse proofs...

I'm a sucker for reverse proofs, ASE's, Maple Leaf's, any the US Mint releases...I just like them. Put them in a black NGC holder like @bugo posted above, and I really like them.

I like them too....but....the proliferation of TOO MANY coins and too many types (proof, reverese proof, enhanced coating, etc.) threatens to increase the supply and with demand more-or-less inelastic....siphon $$$ off from other coins leading to lower prices.

PLUS....you get people 'sucked into' a high-priced coin at a fat premium (i.e., what happened with the SS Central America coins) and then it leaves a bad taste in their mouths. So net-net down the line you could REDUCE interest in coin collecting.

If folks can get the coins at the Mint at retail, that's one thing. But those chasing the coins higher can get burned.

I've seen some of these on eBay recently for decent prices. I just haven't been willing to pull the trigger....yet.
