I am far from an expert on such things, but if that is a fake, you would probably have suckered me in.

Yes, now that I am on my laptop, I am very confident it's a fake. The inside of the
"D" is not the right shape.
    Sorry to hear it man!

I had to straighten the op's pic. Crooked pics make me dizzy. I will have to get a counterfeit detection book to study. No doubt in my mind I would have thought this was real. Is this what is referred to as a contemporary counterfeit ??................. John

Found this thread very good. It is an excellent fake - I bet even listing it as a fake would cause it to bring some $'s.

Ecxept if it gets into the wrong hands, it'll most likely be passed off as a genuine piece. I'd get a little punch or something like that to put "FAKE" or something of the sort on the bottom of the reverse where it's there to let someone know it's a fake, but where it's not distracting from the coin. That way if it's ever sold, no one will get ripped off.

Many thanks Richie for posting this Fake 1914 D for me. And, very interesting all of the responses to this thread. As I had said in my post, my brother paid $35 for it. I believe he bought the fake in 1964. As for the real thing--many thanks HarryJ. I definitely see the stamp depression in the MS65 (really nice) and the triangular shaped impression inside the D. I had thought about selling it on ebay but I'm not liking to do that. I don't have the stamps that small. I've enjoyed this group--many thanks. I'll hold onto the coin to share a story at holidays with relatives.

I understand what you mean - I would like to get it to a real fake collector who would not do such a thing as trying to resale it as a real 14-D. I wonder if the ANA would accept? Just a question.

Has anyone checked to see if there is a VDB on Lincolns shoulder , on the real '14-D there isn't any .

I've always wanted to buy counterfeits, but im afraid what people will think. i picked up a counterfeit trade dollar. EVERYONE knows most of them are fake. This 14 D could definitly fool many people.
