    Yes, I am. But it needs to be clarified that that only applies to the soft ones. The stiffer, less flexible flips do not contain PVC.

    So the flip that sacks gives me is PVC? Why would they do that. In the Comics industry they have soft polybags that, while not mylar, aren't PVC either and don' react with the paper. Is the coin business less smart than the Comics business?

    There are several reasons that dealers still use the soft vinyl flips that contain PVC. First of all they are cheaper, so they save money. Secondly, the non PVC flips can easily scratch a coin every time it is removed from the flip for examination by a potential buyer and then again when it is put back into the flip. Thirdly the non PVC flips tend to crack and break when they are repeatedly opened and closed, so not using them again saves money. And fourth, the dealers do not leave the coins in the PVC flips long enough for any damage to occur - so they are safe to use for a limited time.

    Knowledgeable collectors know all of this. They also know that the first thing they should do when they get a coin from a dealer in one of these flips is that they need to remove the coin from that flip and store it in a proper holder.

    Whenever I'm transporting or shipping coins, I try to put them in PVC flips. Its only temporary, so it doesn't last long enough to cause permanent damage, plus they don't scratch the coins.

    Coat hangers are not made of copper (which would stain clothing) or pot metal (which usually would not be strong enough in wire form). Almost all metal ones are made of steel wire, which is either painted or varnished to prevent corrosion. Some hangers are made of heavy gauge bare aluminum wire, and some are made from wood or plastic..

    I don't know why they would use pVC's at all. The Comics industry has dumped them years agho and PVC isn't the only material available for soft plastic.

    Frankly, I don't understand what it is that is wrong with the coin collecting community. This is not the only example of its stupidity and maltreatment of collectors from dealers...

    This is not a collector friendly industry.
