Bought this 1826 coin a year or so back for my type set, and I generally like the look of it. What would you say is a rough grade estimate for this capped bust half? Thinking about purchasing other earlier US coinage (capped bust, seated liberty, Barbers) in similar conditions when the opportunity opens up.
Most of the 19th century coins I currently own are mostly in the G-F range I think, particularly the Barbers, and this one looks considerably better. Also, would you say this coin was cleaned at some point? I wasn't sure.

AU-50. What's that black arc like line on the right side of the reverse?

Ah that might be a hair strand I didn't notice, this is a fairly zoomed in photo. Sorry about that.

AU-ish, but I don’t see any luster. Can you remove her from the 2x2 and take better pictures?

In the AU range for sure. As for cleaned? Until verified I always assume so. In any case, a beautiful specimen you have there! Gorgeous.

It was quite common for 19th century silver to have been cleaned. Our numismatic ancestors wanted their silver shiny. If it has been cleaned in decades past, it has healed back over nicely and is absolutely market acceptable. Quite a lovely half indeed!

AU-50 Damaged. Looks like something happened at the top of both the eagle's wings and the top of its head. That doesn't look like normal wear to me. Those look more like scrapes, especially on the eagle's head. Inconsistent with the rest of the coin IMHO.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

It has the details of an AU coin, but I'm not seeing much luster here. I would want to see some traces of luster to call it AU.

Is that a scratch across the eagle's wing?

If so, I'll go EF details, scratched. If not, I'll go EF-45.

Without luster, the best it can be is XF 40. If it has luster, AU 50.

Given that it appears to have limited luster, if there is any at all, I would grade it EF-45.

BTW, if that is a hair in the holder, you should remove the coin from there. That could end up putting mark on the coin if it reacts with the silver.

Will remove it from the 2x2 and post some more pictures later.

This coin appears to have AU details, but won’t straight grade if there isn’t any remaining luster. So the most likely grade would be AU details/cleaned in my opinion. XF40 would be a generous “net grade”.

Just by the slight wear I would guess AU50, but luster is so hard to gauge from photos especially on toned coins

Luster or no luster I like the coin. For it's age it appears to be in good condition it's a keeper. Thanks for posting it be safe.

XF-45 A bit too much wear on the Eagles wings and head for an AU I think.

Ok, got it out of the flip and took some pics at different angles. Some tiny dirt specks are present at a few spots however, and I don't have a Q-tip or compressed air on hand to get rid of it. What would you say is the best way to store these coins?

Also, it seems like there's some strong wear/ weak strike in some of the letters of USA. What would you say caused it?

It’s due to a weak strike, which is typical for the top left area of the reverse. Some years/varieties are much worse. Your coin has XF/AU details but was cleaned and then retoned. I believe it’s O-110 R2.

JeffC Go explore something and think a happy thought!

(Sorry - slightly off topic but somewhat related.) I'm not sure why they don't make a "direct-fit" capsule that holds this coin. Yes, there are airtites with the foam rings that this Capped Bust Half will fit into, but if you don't want a capsule with a black or white ring around the coin, you're out of luck. But I hope I'm wrong. If so, please let me know.
