Sheesh. Im not great with these. And by these I mean whether or not this is a proof. Square even rims, what seems to be reflective fields, and sharp strike... going with my gut and saying PF64, though im really not sure if it is a proof or not.
A very nice Liberty, indeed. It looks "proofy" to me as well, though I'm playing along mostly to learn and improve at this sort of thing. I'm going with PF64 also.
If it is a Proof, I would say PR-62. There is a lot of cloudiness on the surface, which would preclude a high Proof grade. High grade Liberty Nickel Proofs should resemble the look of a Jefferson nickel.
I am going to watch with interest. Just because you all seem pretty confident, I will mention that I have these two graded by PCGS. One is PF65 and the other is MS64 CAC. Are you really sure you can decide which is which? (I am not intending to hijack this thread, just hoping to learn what you are seeing. Can you explain what you see in the OP’s 1912 that is swaying you towards a proof?)
1890 is proof, (I think) and the other business strike. Im looking at the details of the coin as they are more mushy in the 1908 nickel, and more apparent in the 1890. Look at the left corn ear for example on the reverse under the "V". As for the OP's GTG, I'm going to say PF65.
I have quite a number of MS and PF examples. I can easily tell by the sharpness of strike and Rotating Luster vs. Deep Mirrors. I wish I couldn't tell. I have a beautiful 1885 proof that I would prefer to sell as MS.
Very nice coin! My immediate thought was proof. But I decided it was MS as it appears to have bag pattern below the chin. I'm guessing ms66. As for the other 2, MS on top and proof below. I don't know as much as most here, but I can play along, guess and learn something.
