I purchased some jewelry cleaner today it cleans silver, gold, and diamonds. I was wondering if I dipped a perfect condition silver coin into the cleaner will it ruin any value?

How would some one know its been cleaned?

    Thanks.

Yes, it will ruin it's value. This will make the coin shiny and obviously cleaned. Any buffing done creates fine lines on the coin which is also obvious. Anything like this will affect the coins natural mint luster and will drastically alter it's appearance. Don't do it.

This includes dipping it in the cleaner. I repeat, it will ruin your coins

The first question I have is why would you want to clean a perfect condition silver coin? And yes, it will destroy much of its value regardless of how well you do it. An expert will immediately detect the cleaning.

Let's put it this way - those jewelry cleaners contain acid, that's what does the cleaning. Would you want to put your coins in acid ?

These are your coins and you have the right to make them worthless to serious collectors. Cleaning coins is truly a bad idea unless your prepared to take the loss. I have learned the hard way, but learned a great deal.

Once you've seen thousands and thousands of coins you get to understand the difference between a coin that's been naturally kept and one that's been "cleaned" or "whizzed".

    You said that right RichieB!
