Today as I was searching for DD’s and doing my homework on them, I decided to stop and grab a treasured coin out of my jewelry box (a gift from my dad as a child.) It’s a 1922 Uncirculated Morgan Dollar with a matte finish. The pictures don’t do it justice... It’s a beautiful shiny coin but not mirror like. As I researched, I realized there were 2 types of coins that year. A high relief and low relief. Can someone please give me your opinion. I feel like I have a highly sought out coin but now waiting for someone to bust my bubble, lol.

I think that only 1 business strike high relief is known to exist, and about 11 Matte proof ones, so statistically it would be extremely unlikely that you have found another one. Not an expert so please wait for some more experienced members to give their opinions

Pop! Low relief. Check the number of rays through the "O" in dollar. HR has two, yours has 1. There are other differences, but this is the easiest way to tell.
    Sorry.
Also, the coin is circulated and has been cleaned.

This is a Peace Dollar. The last year the Morgan was minted was 1921. I've never collected Peace Dollars, but your coin has been harshly cleaned. ~ Chris

I agree with the others. From a value standpoint this is a normal circulation strike common date 1922 Peace Dollar which has been harshly cleaned. It would not have any value to a collector beyond its melt value.

That being said, as a childhood gift from your father it is of great value to you and that’s what is important. Enjoy it for that reason.

First, it's cleaned, AU condition, it's a Peace Dollar, it's low relief, and it's not matte.

I suspect he meant AU Details. I think that is accurate.

We need a new acronym for Circulated, Not AU, 'CNAU'.

Sorry, but you need to add "cleaned with a brillo pad" to your poll...

This is, perhaps the best comment on your coin. I have one like yours. A used, cleaned 1922 Peace dollar that my Dad gave me many, many years ago. It is, monetary value aside, the most valuable coin I own. Thanks for posting.

It's a low relief and it's been cleaned so it should grade AU details. It's a great gift from your father and you should always treasure it above all your other coins.

I have a 1922 Peace Dollar that was given to me by my Great Grandmother when I was baptized. As a collector piece, it doesn't have much value. As for sentimental value, priceless. Enjoy that coin, it can never be replaced.
