totally honest and totally cool. i like it when a person can admit a mistake or error, learn for it and move on. thanks for being of decent character. you can look at my coins anytime. sorry if i came off sounding harsh. i didn't realize it was your first appraisal. if you want to be a good appraiser, you HAVE to buy books, many books, and some that are rarer than the coins you are looking at - the large cent book comes to mind. keep at it - it's fun to be able to look at a collection and immediately see the coins of value. it's easy to spot the collections that were put together over time and just the right coin chosen to complement the others. -Steve
Now I dont know if you guy's know this but some of the counterfit sovereign were actualy made from Platinum LOL Sounds a bit odd I know but honestly it is true, a dealer pal of mine had to tell a couple a quite a few years back that a number of there sovereign's were fake, you should have seen there faces utter dispondency then he told them what the fakes were made off
Just a quick add on to what Doug said about the ones produced in the 50's etc the guy was found not guilty of making them and had all his equipmet returned to him LOL the purity of his coins was more than the originals, this was one of the reasons that the Royal mint resumed making Gold sovereign's
Hi, If this is 3.9940 gr and 19mm, it could be a half sovereign minted in Sydney, Australia--as designated by the S on the base of the scene with St. George and the dragon. (Apologies if this was already discussed)
