I think that because of the optical conclusion it's difficult to tell whether it's incuse or raised. I say it's raised.

It is still a Cud and a ragged one at that! Like it was said before, an Indent is half moon or crescent shaped and more often the latter.

I think if the coin was hit with the light from another direction it would without a question show the cud..my 2 cents.

Hobo I understand 100% what a cud is now. Thanks. I've seen them before but haven't made the connection. But I agree can we get a photo fom an angle of this coin to verify that it is raised. It looks indent to me also.

Angled photos / It is a cud

    Hello Gentlemen,

I just saw your request for angled photos. Sorry if I was not clear before. The cud is in relief meaning that it projects out from the surface of the coin. It is not an indent pressed into the coin's surface. It is a cud. It is the predecessor to LC-87-01 listed in the cud book.

I purchased a really nice cent cud at the Westchester NY Coin show. I will take a picture of it & post it in the error thread section.

    Very best regards,

    Collect,

Can you take the coin out of the 2X2 and retake your photos? You're getting a lot of glare on the surface of the plastic. I think the cud will show MUCH better in the open rather than through the plastic of the 2X2.

    Joe,

See Post 10 of this thread. The OP posted a pic of the reverse. Not the weak strike on the reverse that directly corresponds with the cud.
