Here is a start Please tell me what you think of this reverse. I will get more photos up later. Thanks ~ Darryl
Was afraid of that, cannot seem to go the links worked out using my blackberry Will fix when I get home. Mean while if you want to look at it just go to photobucket and search for uss656 and it will be the first image. Thank You Jim Best regards Darryl
I did make out some doubling when i zoomed in, no double die it's machine doubling whatever areas i made out. i don't know if it's a vam but it can be they do consider MD to be a vam i think. jazzcoins joe:whistle:
Darryl, I see the areas you put in red, looks very possible on some letters, but it is still a little fuzzy for me to tell. That area is UNITED STATES seems more likely. I really can't tell about the IGWT . Here is the VAMs page for 1921P. Former VAM2 ( according to book) was a doubled reverse, but it was incorporated into VAM 1, so you might start there. MD is not considered a separate VAM, but it can occur on a VAM. http://www.vamworld.com/Morgan+VAMs+By+Date Jim
Joe, That is machine doubling OF a VAM 2, not a separate VAM from the Non-MMD VAM2. Any Dollar can have MMD, but that doesn't change the VAM number. VAM 2 is considered the "normal" VAM Die for 1922P Peace, most VAM-2 do not have MMD, a few might. http://www.vamworld.com/1922-P+VAMs check down the list and you will see the normal VAM 2. Jim
Thanks Jim, I put a much better photo up on photobucket which I can link tonight. There is a long die crack across the top of the rev which I have not found yet in the Vam list. The crack starts at the rim above the first T of states and runs to the rim above the right wing tip. This photo shows the doubling better in United/In/Trust/G. These all look more like MD except States which is hard to see with the digital but show up well under the scope. The right side of the letters have a doubling mark which is rounded. Thanks again . Darryl
Darryl, Could you check the coin for 17 berries. It looks like it might be, but I can't tell for sure from the nice photo. http://www.vamworld.com/17+berry+reverse Also, I can't see the reeding and several of this year have "infrequent " reeding. 157 reeds instead of normal 189 around edge. I am still undecided myself. Can you check the "E" in UNITED to see if it is a flat separation of the middle arm or a rounded doubling there. That seems to be the strongest. A large number of VAMS for 1921P Morgans Jim
Hi Jim Here's a close up of the E in United MD without a doubt I didn't out the reeding. I will check the cherries out too. Jazzcoins Joe:thumb:
BTW: This dollar has been in this sleeve since the day the owner received it. The Envelope is addressed "Pittsburgh 1, PA" prior to zip codes - how cool... They recently passed and I work with the neice who has been left with the estate. Just trying to make sure she knows what she has. I put the Morgan in an Air-Tite and had her seal it all in plastic. Best Regards ~ Darryl
