If it were corrosion, verdigris, or mold, then you should probably clean it off. When it is attractive toning, consider leaving it on the coin. Please post your coins with green on them. Very best regards, collect89
Here you go! Coppers get a nice green tone to them and this was is no different...just wish I could get a better pic of it!
Post green coins if you got em. The 1964 quarter is in an NGC holder & the reverse is bright white. Post green coins if you got em. Very best regards, collect89
Great idea for a topic! You don't see too much green toning on copper coins. Here's one of my favorites from this year...
I got some green coins: http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o59/ACPitBoss/Washington%20Quarters/WashingtonQuarter1957-DNGCMS65Large.jpg[img] [IMG]http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o59/ACPitBoss/Washington%20Quarters/WashingtonQuarter1969-DNGCMS66.jpg Enjoy!
AWWW, you probably don't like Frankenstien Movies either. Just kidding of course. Green on coins reminds me of the Copper piping around the old open hearth steel mills. Think I'd clean those coins.
I have no idea and I have never seen toning like that before either, especially on a clad coin. My guess is that the coin was sick and turned green after it went to the doctor. However, green is the one color that coin doctors have the most trouble replicating, so I am guessing that NGC felt at the time they graded it that the toning was market acceptable. I can tell you from seeing the coin in hand that the toning appears even and deep on the surface. I think this coin is artificially toned but it does reside in an NGC. FWIW, I never plan on selling this coin, so it doesn't really matter. I believe I paid near $200 for it.
I'm just not a fan. The same people who like these coins probably don't like the colored coins being put out by the canadian mint. For me, I just want the coins to start out silver and gradually turn to grey. Boring but traditional.
