That's pretty harsh! How do you not offend someone with a comment like that? The Quarters should go - as well as anything like it done to US coins post mint. The Canadian coins I have not seen in hand so I will hold off on an opinion. I agree Lehigh96 that the US circulated coins leave a lot to be desired! The picture of the gold coin looks good/interesting. I like the purple against the gold. As gold doesn't tone there should never be an issue with colors changing.?. That said, how about the silver colored coins from Canada. Have you seen any of them toned? Best Regards ~ Darryl
Lets see people complain about the designs of US coins and yet they do the same whenever a new coin design is introduced LOL they complained about the introduction of Bi metal coins yet now there are those who collect nothing but As for Canada you can buy regular 25c coins with no colour on or those with colour the choice is there, you might not like them that of course is fine this is your perogative but to dismiss them out of hand well that is a closed mind :smile The thing is no one can make you buy them if you dont want them LOL The argument that they are ugly can be used against most coins if you take a moment to think about it, take a Indian head cent what is beuitiful about that? Yet I for one like them :kewl: Enameld coins have there own nich in the collecting world if you dont believe me then try buying a enameld shilling or half crown :smile You have wooden coins, plastic coins coins made from weierd and wonderful metals, coins that are coloured themselfs due to the metal used, things change constantly. What I am trying to say here is just because you dislike them does not mean that they might not be someones pride and joy so who are we to tell them there collection is trash? Would you appreciate it if someone said this about what you collect just because they do not like what you collect? We realy do need to be more tolerant.
Aside from some of the comments in this thread I believe this forum to be amongst the most tolerant on earth. Try posting a thread like this in some of the other forums out there and see what you get. I'll tell ya folks it wouldn't be pretty.
Everything is collectible. Nobody can say for certain what will be considered to have the most value in the distant future.
Well, if someone paints a coin post production, Nuimastically I think that can only be considered to be coin damage. And that should be seperated from a discussion of coins which are designed to be colored and come from the mint as such. Coins coming from the mints with color have used some advanced techniques at minting the color to the metal. I'd have to think that all mints are eventually going to created colored coins. We're not going to remain forever with 17th century minting technology and color is coming.... Ruben
Whoa, whoa, just WHOA, I can't beleive I'm hearing this! I agree but then we had a few voices of reason! I'm glad that this forum is more tolerant than other forums as pointed out here Really, coinface? But seriously people, would you really make this Coin move to the back of the roll? http://www.americanflags.com/baob08prusmi.html
Skrilla, not trying to argue with you here. But I'm not sure what the point you are trying to make is. And when you quoted me, you kinda took it out of context by leaving off the last sentence. I'm just trying to undertsand what you are saying here.
I'd like to see that coin fall out of the roll, bounce of the table, roll out the door, spin a left turn, get hit by an SUV, and fall into the sewer... But that is just my opinion... Ruben
I think that would be a good experiement and we should try that. Which forums would you recommend and who would like to join me?o a little revolution noow and again is good for a democracy. Ruben
In my book coins with and without colour = two different types of coins. Therefore I can`t complete a set of canadian circulating coins without buying types that actually disgust me. And it doesn´t seem to be just one or two colored types, I could live with that in my collection, I`m afraid they will continue to produce more and more colored types. This isn`t a matter of Close-Mindedness. I do like other modern stuff, such as bimetallic or trimetallic, it's just taste. Yes, I to have ugly coins in my collection that I like. That they're ugly don´t make them trashy to me. Exactly what it is that makes me not like colored coins is...indefinable. Actually I wouldn`t tell someone their collection is trash, neither would I enter a thread where some one proudly tells about their new acquisition, and say "that`s trash", "Oh my God that's awful" etc. But in this thread I have no problem telling, uncensored, what I mean about different types of coins. It was started to find out about others' opinions and to tell exactly what I myself think about them. Honestly I wouldn`t care. I know they`re wrong And tolerance isn´t a problem. There's nothing wrong with liking colored coins, and I wouldn´t try stop someone from collecting them. I`m intolerant only regarding what I want in my own collection.
It´s possible Ian Bennett (president of the canadian mint) will be offended if he read my message, though that´s not very likely (him reading my rant I mean). Any way: colored coins look redneck, that´s the best way I can describe my feelings towards them. I really don´t think anyone should be offended just because of my feelings towards a type of coin.
