http://www.pcgs.com/ What are your thoughts on this set? Hope to upgrade more over time, but time will tell.
It looks to me like you’ve done a superb job! My only suggestion on upgrades would be to shoot for some PLs and DMPLs.
Great set. Reminds me of the last one I sold. I would make a few minor upgrades, and keep the set the way it is. I would spend most of my time looking for a better 93s. If you an find a 93s with more eye appeal, and are willing to go for an AU coin, then the set would be perfect the way it is. Everything else in the collection is really, really nice. Congratulations!
That would eventually be the goal to get everything in AU or better. The 93-s is a tough one. I did upgrade it from a VG-10 recently. I like the steely look of the XF-40 but if the time is right and money saved I will pursue an AU 93-s.
Kozmo - out of curiosity, what motivated you to put this set together? Always a goal? Sort of happened over time? Interested in your thoughts. Thanks.
Just started collecting Morgan’s as part of bullion purposes years ago and found that I enjoyed them more than collecting them towards bullion and wanted to put together a complete set. So it is a combination of over time and turned into a passion and goal to put together a complete set. Eventually I want to get everything in AU or better and still have a few more I want to bump from AU to MS but just have to find the right coin at the right price.
Congratulations! Terrific set. Pleasure to look at. I know it took a lot of work ... but probably pleasurable work. Cal
Yup would be great to see more PLs and DMPLs. However, PCGS gives no extra credit in the registry for it ... so it's no upgrade to them. A MS65 1881-CC gets the same points whether PL or DMPL or neither. I've always thought this was wrong. Copper gets bonus points for RB and RD. Why shouldn't silver get bonus points for PL and DMPL? There are specialty sets for prooflike, but only prooflike coins can be put in them. Cal
