I'd take Christmas Trees right now over the current Disney like coinage. I'm hoping to have good ideas in place before petitioning Congress.

And how exactly do you think we go to this, as you say - "Disney like coinage" ?

Conjecture on my part is that special interests drove the coin changes and additionally the Mint hasn't had good artistic input.

They CAN get good design input when they want to. The latest Comm Eagle is pretty darn good. The Jefferson Nickel is a joke.

If I get a major Art School involved, and Pratt is probably the leading institution in the world at the moment, perhaps we can do better?

I've been doing this organizing thing for a while with some decent results. I just need to find a core of like minded people to drive the process forward.

Why ? I did it virtually by myself. It all started out as a dare actually on the old Coin World forum. Just like here on this forum, people were clamoring for change in our coinage. I spoke up and told them all it would take would be for somebody to actually do it. To contact all of the members of Congress, the President, Vice President etc etc. To get the word out - that all of them would listen if somebody would only do it.

Well, they dared me to do it. Ask Speedy, he was there when it happened. So I did it. I had some help from JD - I did all the research, wrote everything, set everything up and JD built the web site and hosted it. I contacted everybody - everybody ! And the word spread. I was interviewed by all of the numismatic magazines - it became news.

So no, you don't need anybody else. If you want it to happen, you just have to do the work.

Not at all, wouldn't even attempt it. All I did was push for new designs. Well, we got new designs alright

I'd like to see the response when you try to spend that thing. It is legal tender.

Usually such pieces are produced and distributed by major dealers, with the consent of the government that "issues" them. But I guess that many if not most of them are virtually unknown in the supposed country of origin. :p

no doubt, but it would be fun anyway. I think it is Australian.

Ah right, Australia (from the Perth Mint). I had thought it was something from Palau, the Cook Islands and the like. Well, when collecting new coin ideas, why not show a bad example once in a while ... :p
