HOW DID YOU DO THAT? THAT LOOKS GREAT. THE NICKEL, QUARTER, HALF DOLLAR, AND DOLLAR COINS WOULD BE VERY COLLECTABLE IMO. THANKS. zg

I didn't do that. It is a hobo nickel carved out of a buffalo. But it does give you a good idea of what the mint might be capable of other than the Jefferson Nickel, which is soooooooo boring.

Thanks , but I still didn't find the one engine that's always shown in western movies. The one on the nickel is really close to it though.:smile:smile

You've got that right. How can we make the mint do this? zg

We can form a ad hoc committee here on coin talk and organize...

First of all you don't make the mint do anything. You get Congress to do it. The mint only does what the lawmakers tell them to do.

Secondly, you might want to be careful what you ask for - you might get it. And then, you may not like it.

the idea is to get decent designs in place while petitining congress, but frankly, within the confines of congressional mandates the mint has been just so unimaginative if not ugly.

I think that Nickel looks sharp. I'm for the Beaver...nonone else is?

I wonder if we would have selected the Buffalo without the initial leadership.

Nice.. I like that Hobo Nickel better though. I think something along this line would make a GREAT circulating coin.

Also I think that particular design is more complex than needed for a circulating coin

Well, that Austrian piece is just a collector coin, much like your $1 silver commems. It is from the Historic Austrian Railways series of coins. Due to the high importance of railways in Europe, in the past and present, you will find many coins with railway/locomotive themes around here. But yes, that €20 design would be too detailed and complex for a circulation coin.

book marked. The name sounds familiar.

I'm thinking of taking some resulting ideas to a friend who teaches at Pratt University to see if we can get design patterns worked up from the university.

Like I said Ruben, be careful what you ask for as you may just get it. And then you may not like it.
